Synopsis
The show’s locale is what was known as Indian Territory in early 1900
just prior to Oklahoma gaining 47th statehood status. To put it in perspective, The Bradley was
being built in 1905. Farmers and ranchers had to find ways to live cooperatively, despite their
differing lifestyles and needs. That is the environment developed in “Oklahoma.” It is a story with
rousing music, fetching characters, played before a big sky and a winning set design. The script
is written in local dialect. From the moment the sun comes up on Curly, it captivates the audience
with memorable music, colorful characters, and the unfolding story of the foibles of navigating
toward fulfilling human relationships.

Aunt Eller tends to her farm, and is a respected force in the community. Her neice Laurey is proud
and insists on being treated well, as Curly tries to win her hand. Will lacks foresight and common
sense as he seeks to marry Ado Annie, a naïve farmer’s daughter. Annie has trouble resisting
other men, notably Ali Hakim, the traveling peddler. In the midst of the above plot lines, there is a
seething dark character who also has designs on Laurey. Jud Frye is Eller’s farmhand who lives
in the smoke house. He has a suspicious past and brooding demeanor. He represents the baser
instincts in life. He competes with, and tries to eliminate Curly. For these characters, life is hard,
pleasures are simple, cooperation and community essential.
